Hi all,
Well i've had the idea that the skylanders game (all platforms)
it must work like a microchip in bottom of each figure and the dock is like a
chip reader.
So can someone not make a chip type thing that we can d/load the figure
info, store on a micro sd card or something along them lines.
Maybe a usb dongle, on the lines of eclipes or other jailbreak type thing?
any devs out there working on something like??

Skylanders has already been reversed by Brandon Wilson (the guy who brought PS3JB to the TI-84 and TI-89 calculators), but he got threat letters from Activision's lawyers so he removed the page.

containing extensive data concerning my "hacking" activities. This "zip"
file was placed in its location for my temporary use and was not intended
for public consumption. The general public was unaware of this file's
existence during the brief time it was located on the server, and I am
aware of no evidence to the contrary.
I currently have no intention nor have I had any intention to create or
distribute iOS software for any purpose, let alone for the circumvention
of Skylanders' access control systems. To my knowledge, I do not even have
the tools necessary to produce iOS software. I have expressed no desire to
make publicly available measures to circumvent Skylanders' access control
systems. In fact, the partial documentation previously made available by
me at the website http://www.brandonw.net/consoles/skylanders/
intentionally did not contain the encryption key vital to the access
control measures in place in the Skylanders game.
This research project was for my own personal knowledge and to satisfy my
own curiosity as to how the game interacts with its USB peripheral. I have
expressed no desire to release to the public tools that circumvent
Skylanders' access control measures, and I continue to express no desire
toward that end. I do not and did not have any intention to harm
Activision or cause harm to its products or investments.
I re-iterate that I have and do intend to comply with your request to
cease any and all research and development into how the game Skylanders:
Spyro's Adventure works. Any and all publicly accessible documentation
and/or source code has been removed to the best of my knowledge and
ability.
Please confirm your receipt of this letter at your earliest convenience.

lets start with specualtion.
there are either a fixed set of characters in the game,
selected by the "toy" that contains an epprom for "inventory",
or the "toy" contains the complete character info minus 3d-mesh & textures etc.
allowing the already-writen game to be "exploited" by toys for as long as possible with online downloading of the character data.
or, the toy contains "everything".
if it's the first, then you can just hack the game for full character-select.
screw the toys (and activision!)
if it's the second then the "toy" data can be cloned into an atmel - maybe with a bank-select for multi-character capability.
BUT - if it's the third, everything on the "toy" trick.
well - we could create a fully custom character with custom capabilitys.
i dont have any of this stuff - or i'd start looking ino it.

so maybe easier/harder. Time will tell

i looked at that file,
i now think it's the first or second method i listed.
looking at how exploiting it is of kids - i suspect the second.
does the character packaging mention needing to go online?
a 2byte character i.d.????

in the file you can see the data layout,
see the 2byte "character id"?
someone / or a group, should cycle that byte-pair from 0000 to ffff and i.d. all the known characters!
maybe you can find some they havnt announced for sale yet!
there may even be a hidden "dev" character with god-like capabilitys!

Reading the info from skylanders site, you have to input 3 character
cards to get access to the usb driver. wtf
it's the never ending game with your kids having to shell out
to finish game or never as it looks lol
anyone got the usb driver???

Hi guys
have all the files now (i think)
usb driver, skylander editer and win driver kit (looks like 605mb) zipped
do i need the visual studio as well??
not sure at this point (had my meds lol) makes the brain sloooow down haha
sorry guys
need a pointer as to what to do next, can't get portal drivers installed corectly, well
if you call (code 10 cant start??) installed .
going to unistall everything and do a fresh install.

The protocol has been reverse engineered, and some Wii hacks implemented using cheat engine, but I don't know what has been done for Xbox 360 specifically.

OK, managed to get the Visual Studio project to "work".
It reads the figurine, like this example:
SkylanderEditor.exe r Drobot.dat
Connecting to portal.
Reading Skylander from portal.
................................................................
Skylander read from portal.
Success!
See attachment for the file Drobot.dat
But, if I try to write this file to another figurine, I get an error:
SkylanderEditor.exe w SonicBoom.dat
Connecting to portal.
.Reading Skylander from portal.
................................................................
Skylander read from portal.
Writing Skylander to portal.
....Failed to write block 0. Aborting.
EDIT:
Actually, writing seem to work, when I write to the same figurine as I read from:

Just some notes to those who struggle with bulding the "Skylander Editor".
Install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition".
Install "Windows Driver Kit".
Install Skylander Driver.
In Visual Studio, File>New>Project from Existing code
Select the src directory
Project type: Console application project
Once the project is created, go to View>Property pages:
Configuration Properties>C/C++>General>Additional Include Directories:
C:\WinDDK\7600.16385.1\inc\ddk;"$(VCInstallDir)\include";"$(VCInstallDir)\atlmfc\include";
C:\WinDDK\7600.16385.1\inc\api;"$(WindowsSdkDir)\include";"$(FrameworkSDKDir)\include"
Configuration Properties>Linker>General>Additional Library Directories:
C:\WinDDK\7600.16385.1\lib\win7\i386
Then, select Build, you will have the exe file in the debug folder.

Hehe. I was joking, but Skylanders seems to be too important for that.
I would like to think that this forum was about research and learning something new, not just providing .exe files as ordered.
Brandon's work was not complete, but he managed to accomplish a lot before getting the letters from Activision. Simply put this is great information for anyone who wants to write their own software, but pretty far from a working user friendly editor.

i wonder if for the xbox 360 version of the game, if one could create a trainer so that you could FTP to the console from the PC and mod the stats, xp, gold, ect... that way. i know its been done for the new resident evil raccoon city, wonder if it would be similar

Hi guys, has anyone managed to get the SkylanderEditor to work with the Xbox portal ?
I have read the notes in the source code and have done many hours of research on Google etc and tried changing few bits in the code but to no avail.
Might be time to give up and buy another portal.

Attached find the compiled version of the Skylanders Editor. As per the comments here the existing code has some limitations:
1. It will not work with XBox360 portals.
2. The documentation for how the checksums work is incomplete. If you use a hex editor to change the hat or the heroics completed the program does not know how to compute the checksum required for these fields. So the skylanders game will reject your character if you change these fields.

i Need a Help (Sign Up Just To Post That):
i have a pc version of skylanders spyro after finish downloading (7GB) i got a problem of finding crack.
people told me even if i downloaded a crack i need a DumpPortal Thing .
i Read This Threat But Didnt understand Anything.
Told Me What Shall I Do Please!

I assume you need to run this from a command prompt (DOS) when using the Windows binary.

Hello all of you guys, new here but I have your answer to your question. You need to open up COMMAND PROMPT and then DRAG the EDITOR.EXE on to it then PRESS ENTER... and BOOM CAKE!!! Hope this help.
