I think anything over firmware v3.56 will fail, unless you have a NAND dump of a lower firmware for that PS3.

Yes you can you must have the dump flash of your console:you can do that by progskeet flasher or any other like norway to make dump of nor or nands chips backup and then patch it to revoke metloader to older kernel if your console support the downgrade revoke list order ..and then you can go ahead and install Rogero Cfw version 3.1 and its a good one but if you want to do that the easy way ... right now the only good news is that you can go into service mode by the older ps3 jig or any other payload that can do that ..once you are into service mode and your ps3 firmware over 3.55 you cant exit by the older self file.. you gonna have a brick so you have to wait until some one sign anew self file in order to exit service mode for now ... take care guys
