I'm dumping some info and a bunch of links to let you decide if good or bad, maybe even a fake.

Quote:
Project PlayStation Input Output has been trying to load PlayStation 1 game images through the game system's parallel I/O port since 2010, and now it's ready to show off the first prototype. If piracy is your aim, then modchips that let users play burned discs and emulators that have been available through the console's 19-year history should suffice, but this project aims to bypass those methods. The potential benefits include easier homebrew support and playing of ripped discs on the original hardware without worrying about wearing out an aging console's laser. Eventually the team wants to load games and saves from an SD card, but in this demo video it's playing Klonoa: Door to Phantomile from an attached PC. As seen in the nearly ten minute video it does work, albeit slowly. As the video notes, optimizations for the USB controller and CD sectors that should speed things up have not been implemented yet. According to its FAQ, the PSIO team aims to have a final version done this year.

A quick observation; this will only work solderless for the first generation of PSX consoles, not SCPH-900x or PSone which lacks the parallel I/O port. The goal is an SD card solution, they've given up on hard drive support it seems.

Man that is awesome especially if it isn't fake, Which i doubt it is. Very clever device although loading times are bad but to be expected if it isnt finished.

Comments about "emu" only shows how limited are you.

Emu NEVER is perfect. Every emulation has HIGH cons. The worst of them all is probably on ps3. I don't care about ps4 at all too.

lol you are talking like this is the finished product. wait for the full released. its a prototype they just got in last month. they need to do some more testing. they a found an error in the drive speed which account for the slow loading speed, they are currently working on a fix.

Sheesh, people waited years for something like this, whats a few more months to work out the kinks.

I am 99% sure PSIO is a fake.
Did you see any betatest of this thing from any known game site? No, You didn't.
Then you got your answer if it is fake or not.

We are now in 2017 and PSIO indeed seems to be real.

They did some server related changes regarding URL handling which killed several old links posted here, but this one works:
