We have several of our Canadian customers waiting for Registered Airmail shipments dating all the way back to December 2016 until now.

There seems to be a problem with customs in Canada where they hold our shipments indefinitely without any kind of notification. Normally when customs have a problem with a shipment they either contact the customer or return it to sender, but that is not the case here.

We have filed manual postal inquiries for all customers who contacted us with Registered Airmail shipments older than a month and who are still waiting. If you are waiting for an order to Canada from the EurAsia Online Shop and haven't contacted us, then please do so by sending an email to: sales@eurasia.nu

If you have any general questions or related information, please reply in this topic/thread.

Out of curiosity, are the packages actually getting scanned into customs or are they just leaving one shore and appearing to vanish? East or west entry, or both?

In my experience of shipping world wide (since 2001), when Registered Airmail shipments are in the free zone of the destination country, pending customs handling, no shipments are "scanned" (if you refer to tracking number). It is not until the shipment has cleared customs the local post office in the receiving country can scan the tracking number. However, sometimes customs do scan on entry, but it is rare.

In this case the Registered Airmail shipments "disappear" tracking wise after leaving Bangkok airport by flight, this is normal for most countries including Canada, but it is not normal shipments are just being held in the receiving country (destination country) for months without any notification or rejection back to sender.

Well, I get (for registered or epacket mail from china at any rate)
-"International item mailed in originating country "
-"International item has left originating country and is en route to Canada "
-"Item has arrived in Canada and was sent for further processing."
which is customs and takes anywhere from an hour to 2 weeks
-"Item processed"
when it moves out of customs, and maybe more but at least a 'delivered' message when its gone to the mailbox. The first two can be seen on both canadapost and hk post or singapore post depending which they used on that end, the rest only on canada post (or all on a site like 17track.net).

So, I generally at least know it hasn't completely vanished. Canada post has taken some cost cutting steps in the last while though, and is deprioritizing high volume low cost (relative to what it costs to ship within canada via canada post, generally 10CAD+ for small parcels/bubble mailers) shipping methods from international locations like small packets from China as well as reducing tracking at processing centres.

That said, in excess of 6 weeks, especially from in December when afaik they had hired extra temporary staff to handle Christmas volumes... something isn't right. Anything I've had that has been opened/inspected in customs here has never delayed more than a couple weeks with scans before and after release - though the last time that occurred was years ago now so I don't know if it's relevant info anymore.

I had a package leave HK and just vanish a little over a month ago (not from eurasia, ofc), never getting scanned into the receiving port which should have been Richmond, B.C. (west entry), which made me ask/curious if your situation was the same - because that has never happened to me before unless the package was just completely MIA. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a good while for them to, in their words, "urge them again for the investigation".

Of course, I suppose I also could have been misinterpreting the "has arrived in Canada" as port of entry scan all along and "further processing" was simply waiting in some queue for room on a truck.

This is not how it works with Registered Airmail which is handled by Canada Post on the receiving end, perhaps "epacket" is a different kind of service. Do you mean EMS?

According to Canada Post website:

"Tracking is not available for international registered mail items sent to Canada."

https://www.canadapost.ca/

Canada Post used to support online tracking for Registered Airmail, but not anymore.

The only way to track Registered Airmail from us if you are in Canada is using Thailand Post:

http://track.thailandpost.com/tracking/default.aspx?lang=en

What shipping service was that? Did it have tracking number starting with two letters, nine digits in between and ending with two letters (LLNNNNNNNNNLL)?

About Registered Airmail shipments getting lost in general, there seems to be a lot of lies spread out there by vendors/shippers for different reasons.

Since we started EurAsia Technology CO., LTD. back in the year 2001 we have shipped 12981 orders so far world wide from Thailand, we have only lost 4 shipments total, so the chance of Registered Airmail getting lost is very low.

Package delivery firm Purolator suspended acceptance of new shipments Tuesday after its largest union issued 72 hours' notice of a possible strike, which would commence Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. ET. They are just in strike. Hopefully will get normalized within 2 or 3 days

Have they been on strike for the past 4 months, since December 2016?

It is already:

I don't think that is the problem.

Sometimes 'shipments' are being held, waiting for proper paperwork, alot of times with Canada ones, the customer has to appear at local 'customs' office, and demand for their parcel, at what time they need to have on them a printed invoice showing the true value and payment.

Normally, this is done automatically, and you pay any fees at the door, but sometimes they have issues, or have no way to contact the person, but it is very rare for Canada post to hold items, normally something you see big companies like DHL or FedEX or the worse UPS doing instead.

Hopefully, this gets resolved soon.

Yes, we had similar problems in the past with Canada, customs requiring more documents etc., but nothing like this before.

One of the Canadian customers told me Canada Border services are not aware of the shipment using the tracking number, and he had to fill out some kind of clearance form but they could not confirm any pending shipments to his address.

e-packet translates to "xpress" once it reaches canada post, usually a nominal $1.50-$2 more than registered, goes out by ground/box truck or sometimes plane after it clears customs - probably a gov't incentivised shipping method in china.

Registered is basically treated like lettermail once it reaches canada post, it languishes in storage facilities until there is room on a truck - except because its registered they do actually scan it at various points including delivery and every time I've seen in the last couple years it hits a scan at customs, which would previously show up on their site - but it also takes 2-3x longer to get where its going once in country.

Just looking over some of my history for the last while, I'm seeing...
LMxxxxxxxxCN <- e-packet from hk (this is the one that went MIA)
LMxxxxxxxxCS <- e-packet from singapore
LKxxxxxxxxHK <- I honestly don't recall which this was, but it came from hk post
RTxxxxxxxxCN <- registered mail from hk, I do recall tracking this package a couple months before christmas despite what the site says, enough that I wasn't surprised when it was buzzed up by the post worker. Old enough now though that the info is gone from the sites (CP also seems to be clearing tracking info much faster these days, 2-3 months or so) or they've intentionally put a soft block in since.

I have in the distant past had smaller packages show up really late, like 6 weeks or more longer than expected - suspiciously looking like they had fallen off a cart or track and gotten jammed up underneath something

Sad that Canada Post apparently doesn't refer to dictionaries anymore...

Anyway, I'll quit rambling; sorry if none of this helps you or anyone else reading. I hope you figure out what happened to the goodies.

damn, that's crazy. One theory, a friend of mine came up with is they could just be holding all packages with your company name for a certain period of time until they get a good amount to go through to make sure it isn't any sort of contraband. Have you had an unusually high number of orders coming from canaada since december? it could've raised a red flag since these are mostly unmarked chips

joeblowm,

As a seller it makes me angry reading about the long shipping times you have to endure, it shouldn't take that long, unacceptable.

When we ship Canada is definitely one of the "slow" countries regarding Registered Airmail, almost down there with countries like France and Spain. In contrast to fast countries like Netherlands and Sweden where we had shipments reach their customers in three days total. USA used to be around a one week shipping time, but after homeland security got involved it seems to be rare any shipment is less than two weeks.

hacktheplanet,

Yes, I'm suspecting something like that, but it could also be that the origin country, Thailand, is on a watch list at customs in Canada, and they just store the mail while slowly going through checking it.

There are definitely some issues going on with customs in Vancouver.

I ordered some random glass items on Dec 27th that shipped through Singapore Post lettermail. It arrived in Vancouver on Feb 10th and I just got it in the mail 2 days ago. I asked the ladies at my post office and they said there is some sort of 40+ day holdup on packages shipping from China or Singapore.

They had no idea why there was any hold but I have no problem getting something from Japan sent with EMS in 4-5 days.

Indeed.
