The Ultimate Game Boy Talk
gba modrobert writes: "In the 'better late than never' department: Michael Steil (Mist) had an interesting talk over at 33C3 about the original Game Boy, also covering a bit of the differences compared to the later Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance models. Lots of great in-depth technical information squeezed into one hour. Quote: 'The 8-bit Game Boy was sold between 1989 and 2003, but its architecture more closely resembles machines from the early 1980s, like the Commodore 64 or the NES. This talk attempts to communicate 'everything about the Game Boy' to the listener, including its internals and quirks, as well as the tricks that have been used by games and modern demos, reviving once more the spirit of times when programmers counted clock cycles and hardware limitations were seen as a challenge.'"

Random quote from the conclusion: 'The K-Teams SoC is the first real GBA hardware solution available to manufacturers. The K1 GBA SP implements this solution into a recognizable and popular form factor. Together they offer gamers the opportunity to experience ROMs, Homebrew, and emulation on a device that aims to be the next evolution in GBA-era gaming.'"

Thanks to Brakken @ for the heads up. Quote Tomato: 'After more than 13 years of waiting, the sequel to EarthBound is now in English! With any luck, the translation will seem just as strange, funny, and heartrending as the original Japanese version.'"

Gameboy Micro pre-orders now open at lik-sang
gba [source:]
Aiming for the image-conscious folks who love video games, Nintendo today confirmed the Gameboy Micro will be launched in Japan on September 13th 2005. While PSP has already taken the tiara as the sexy goddess of portables, the Gameboy Micro is equally beautiful but in a very different way. Being a tiny 10 cm (4") by 5 cm (2"), and a stunning 1.7 cm (.7") thin, it's around the same size as an iPod Mini, but just two thirds of the weight. This is something that you can just slip into the pocket of your jeans, and at under 80 grams (2.8 ounces), it's half the weight of a GBA SP.
