Team Rebug Is Back With New Releases Coming Soon
ps3 [source: GaryOPA @] We have not heard from Team Rebug for a while, but we are please to announce they are busy on finishing up some super-duper new firmwares, and you will be more then enjoying just Turkey on your Thanksgiving dinner next month, you will be dusting off your CFW PlayStation 3 console and installing some updated Rebug firmwares, which will finally be Official instead of previous ones that were leaked and missing tons of key improvements. Team Rebug would also like everyone to know they have recently expanded and added two new long-time scene developers to their fold, so stay tuned as updates, and more news will be coming out soon from them over the next few weeks.

Project: CFW on PS3 Super Slim (4k)
ps3 modrobert writes: "After releasing 3k3y firmware v2.11 beta (with OFW 4.55 support) and losing interest in the ODE 'cat and mouse' game with Sony (OFW 4.60 and 4.65), I have spent the past few weeks researching and dumping raw data in an ongoing project to extract lv0.2 keys via bootldr. My dumps include data from most of the PS3 4k chipsets, this was *NOT* collected by sniffing a bus (or several) in a conventional way, so even if targeted key is embedded in silicon, as long as it is processed/executed internally by any kind of microcode I might be able to catch it. At this point I don't want to reveal how the data was obtained exactly, it is a method of my own design based on several known side channel attacks. The intention is to release the method eventually. Check the project forum topic for more info, and you are welcome to join what could be the most interesting PS3 project since the lv0 keys were leaked.

PS3OS v4.65 released - as expected
ps3 modrobert writes: "Sony has released PS3 Original FirmWare Update v4.65 via PSN (SEN). I think this could be the final nail in the 'ODE coffin' based on previous firmware releases, but I haven't checked it, so this is pure speculation based on a hunch. I have updated the Ps3OsRels wiki as usual where the updates also can be downloaded, or at least could be at one point. This time there was an incremental update (PS3PATCH.PUP)."

Cobra ODE v2.2 Released
ps3 [source:] We are happy to release the 2.2 update for all Cobra versions including the 5.1B and 5.3A PCB revisions V5.x boards, we have increased USB read speeds by 40%* and further improved the success rate of swapping discs for the bypass. Furthermore, we have added support for 4.60 ofw bypass and new bypass tools (applicable to all Cobra ODE versions v3.x, 4.x and 5.x). We have also added a another nice features, auto region patching for psx games. Various fixes for stability and configuration have been added, please refer to the changelog in the mcu update folder. V5.30A users please note that a bug has been fixed in the 2.1 firmware which caused ISO's not to load if the drive door was not toggled open and then closed. Please ensure you update to the 2.2 Cobra ODE fw asap. We have now successfully bypassed 4.60 ofw on older PS3 consoles (PATA, SATA FAT, 2k, 2k5 and 3k models). An additional hardware module (Cobra DMC) is required and will be sold bundled with 5.10B or 5.3A versions of the Cobra ODE.

Red Ribbon GNU/Linux LXDE 14.03 released for PS3
ps3 [source: R04drunner @ ] Red Ribbon LXDE 14.03 is based on Debian Jessie and It includes the following changes:

* Kernel 3.12.6 with the Graf_chokolo's, Marcan's and Gitbrew's patches.
* New version of the installer with some features added and some bugs fixed.
* New version of the Red Ribbon theme.
* Iceweasel (Firefox) updated to the 27 release.
* Blueman is now the bluetooth manager.
* Added the SMTube application to play videos from Youtube.

Red Ribbon LXDE 14.03

I believe that Red Ribbon GNU/Linux is already a mature distribution and I've decided that the version will be based on the publication date, using the year followed by the month, like other distributions.

Also, I'm working in others Red Ribbon flavors based on others desktops, so I've included the desktop name on the release name.

This is part of the protection Sony added specifically to prevent ODE in OFW (Original FirmWare) 4.60 which also affected CFW users to some extent when a disc was loaded in the BD drive. You can find more details and patches in the forum post here. For ODE users; this will initially only help those who run CFW, which are few, but this info might become useful to support OFW as well. PS3OS v4.60 aka ODE killer released
ps3 modrobert writes: "Sony has released PS3 Original FirmWare Update v4.60 via PSN (SEN). This release was designed specifically to target ODE solutions it seems after my initial tests, no surprises there. When thinking about it, I doubt there has been a truly user beneficial update since OFW 3.15, it started when they removed 'Other OS' in OFW 3.21, it's been downhill ever since, either hack prevention or Cinavia updates to cripple the user experience. All officially announced as 'system stability' related fixes to keep their customers in the dark. Don't update to OFW 4.60 unless you like a challenge! I have updated the Ps3OsRels wiki as usual where the updates also can be downloaded, or at least could be at one point. This time there was an incremental update (PS3PATCH.PUP)."

3k3y v2.08 Beta for PS3 Super Slim announced
ps3 modrobert writes: "After a few busy days of developing (and hacking) I'm proud to announce 3k3y v2.08 Beta.

3k3y with legendary P0T-NOodle

3k3y v2.08 Beta PS3 Super Slim (4k) changelog:

* OFW 4.55 swap disc support with game updates working
* No wire/soldering required for cover switch handling
* SWAPTRICK=Y setting added to 3key.cfg
* SWAPTIMEOUT=xx (between 5 - 25 seconds) setting added to 3key.cfg
* Optional LANGUAGE=P0T setting added to 3key.cfg, giving P0T-NOoDLE font on the remote display in English (Thanks Sir Garbagetruck aka Lastebil for the heads up)

This list might change before public beta and final release.

UglyClicker is working on the swap disc support in 3k3y IsoTools, so that should be ready in time for public release.

Unfortunately my attempts to solve the 'game update' and 'quit game' freeze problems for 3Dump.bin users (who have drive key) failed, so I doubt any fix for that will make it into this release."

REBUG on the OFW 4.55 update
ps3 [source: evilsperm @] We were going to release 4.53 but got caught up actually fixing all the cobra patches "Correctly" along with a host of other features. Then just when things were looking like they were finished 4.55 was released...So now everything has to be re-patched re-tested and some things need to be tweaked again, then it will be time for a release, but we are not going to release something half assed. Remember that Rebug innovates and everyone making CFW these days uses Rebug patches not the other way around... So once we have the features we want in there and its working to perfection, only then will there be a release. Sorry that I can not give you all an ETA on a release date. :(

I sacrificed a 3k3y 3KR (3KS-R) install on a PS3 Super Slim (4k), updated to OFW 4.55, and it failed to load GTA5 after that (just hangs in XMB)! So, for now, don't update to OFW 4.55. Only 'pass-thru' mode works so far in my tests on OFW 4.55, will try some more games. Check this forum topic for updates regarding my tests and official news from Team 3k3y. Users with older fat PS3 consoles have reported success with 3k3y on OFW 4.55, so this seem to affect newer consoles, as Team Cobra suggested."

Review 3KR, the new 3k3y for SATA
ps3 modrobert writes: "I've just started installing 3KR (3KS-R) in a PS3 Super Slim, the new soon to be released 3key solution which supports 4k, 3k, 2k5, 2k1 and 2k consoles in one main board. This is the first time I've opened up a PS3 Super Slim, the hardware design is a bit cryptic with the weird shielding plates which also doubles as cooling elements, and it's pretty clear most of the design changes were done to make the console cheaper to manufacture. Anyway, back to 3KR, compared to 3k3y 4k (3KS) most of the adapter logic has moved to the main board and the adapter is now reduced to a small passive PCB for the SATA soldering points as seen below. I'll keep you updated on the progress, check the forum topic for more info.

Cobra ODE news roundup
ps3 [source:] We are releasing another update today to the COBRA ODE firmware as well as an updated manager and 3rd party integration library. The problem reported earlier about the ODE not recognizing some NTFS drives was actually caused by drives using the non default cluster size. We have updated the user manual to specify that we recommend 4096 allocation unit size. Also, with this update, the ODE will now support drives with a cluster size of 2048, 4096 and anything above that. We have also added another new feature. Now our manager reports the ODE MCU firmware version. The COBRA manager will now print the version of the COBRA ODE firmware. An update to the third party integration library will allow third party managers to display this information.
