Check this forum topic in the Cobra tech forum here at EurAsia for full details, videos of Cobra ODE in action and press release (in PDF). I think the most impressive part is that they have managed to nail PS3 Super Slim (CECH-40xx) which is supported! Let me know if you figure out how that was done. ;) "

[source: Rogero @ tortuga-cove.com] Hi everybody, I was away for a long while, a lot of work and real life projects to handle lately, I don't even have time to follow the scene news but I still managed to pre-order a Launch Day Edition PS4 and a Day One Xbox One too. ;) Here's my build of the CFW4.41 v1.00 ( it's still v1.00 the very same PUP built initially ) and honestly this may be the last too, I may not have the time to work on all the reversing/patching/building of future firmware versions. The CFW have all the basic patches needed as usual but ToolBox payload was not updated and not included this time so ToolBox won't show on [app_home] (before anyone start asking about it).

[source: Team 3k3y @ FB] 3k3y SATA is now ready!
After months of testing 3k3y SATA is now in production. All SATA models can be supported by various daughter boards. At this time the first daughterboard supports the following models:
-Fat PS3s, CECHL onwards
-20xx/21xx Slims
3.55 is still required for key extraction but we have made some interesting finds which may eventually lead to key extraction directly from the drive.

[source: cobra-ode.com] We're pleased to present pictures of the final Cobra ODE hardware - Main PCB assembly. As you can see there are two switches which enable configuration of PATA (FAT consoles)/SATA (FAT CECHL consoles) and 2k,2k5k,3k and 4k series slim and super slim consoles. Cobra ODE is the first truly universal PS3 ODE bringing maximum convenience to end users and resellers alike. As you can see we've designed everything to be connected via FFC cables directly between ODE and console or console, ODE and daughter boards in the case of the 2k5,3k and 4k series consoles. A great deal of effort and time has been put into designing a system with best performance and maximum convenience for installation. We're working hard on the finalization of the software, stay tuned for further information....

[source: Team 3k3y @ FB] Today we got the first assembled samples of the 3k3y-s motherboard. This hardware is compatible with all PS3 models with a SATA interface, through a series of different daughter boards for the different models.

Thanks goes to the 3k3y team for shipping the sample. You can follow my valiant attempts to install this baby in our 3k3y forum where some initial board photos are posted already, next up is the installation. This will be fun... believe it or not, but I've never even opened a fat PS3 console before (only Slim). The idea is that I eventually post a review later, but first things first, lets see how it goes. For some strange reason these fancy modern 'no soldering' solutions makes me nervous. ;) [UPDATE]: First part of my review posted here, and the second part here.

[source: GaryOPA @ ps3crunch.net] Today we got an Email from the E3 Diy Team, and their latest hardware product is aimed at 'developers', the E3 Station, a series of different PCBoards for playing with your console firmware NOR or NAND and even the Blu-Ray drive. Also a smaller product called the PS3 Glitcher has also been announced by the E3 Team.

First out was Estwald and D_Skywalk with PSX support in their open source IrisManager on the 21st of January 2013, then came deank with support in multiMAN on the 27th of January 2013. You can find these backup managers for PS3 in our famous download section here at EurAsia, try this search for the latest IrisManager and this one for multiMAN. You can also find the latest Rogero and Rebug custom firmwares based on 4.xx in there as well. Enjoy!"

[source: ps3crunch.net] Cobra ODE is THE optical drive emulator for PS3! In the past Cobra brought ground breaking features and unparalleled support to the PS3 scene with its Cobra USB dongle. Now we're back with the Cobra Optical Drive Emulator for PS3. Run game and movie ISO's from any PS3* without the need to restrict your console to running on a CFW. This brings freedom of choice for the SEN, original games and functionality of the Cobra ODE without hassle or complication. A switch allows user to toggle between use of the original BD drive or the emulator.

[source: GaryOPA @ ps3crunch.net] Team Cobra is entering the PS3 Optical Drive Emulator market. We all heard of the upcoming '3k3y' device, but now the market for installing an ODE in the PS3 scene world is heating up as the world's famous Team Cobra behind the Cobra-USB dongle is now going to be producing an Cobra-ODE for playing all your backup PS3 Blu-Ray Game Disc Images directly from any HDD without the need to have your PS3 console on 'custom firmware', which they claim will be 'most advanced PS3 Optical Drive Emulator' ever.

[source: 3k3y.com] Final hardware verification will start this week. All parts have been tested on development boards so no surprises are anticipated. While built-in disk ripping does work, it is too slow to be practical and will not be present. There is another way which is much faster and can most likely be delivered in a future software update, but we will not have time to verify this before launch. So we decided to remove built-in disk ripping from the feature list and put it on the WIP list. We have designed and completed software and a add-on board for connecting a PS3 drive to a PC via USB in order to dump games. This add-on board will be a part of the 3k3y kit.

[source: kakaroto.homelinux.net] Hi everyone. Last year, in January, I decided to have some fun and write a homebrew application using the EFL libraries. I decided to work on a homebrew manager.. basically a replacement to the XMB. It went really well, and the development was really fast, and it was all thanks to the awesome API and capabilities of the EFL libraries. However, I became busy and was unable to continue… also, it was a bit slow and without proper hardware acceleration, it wouldn’t be as good as I hoped for, so I put the project on the side. After many months, in September, thanks to gzorin’s work, we finally had a working and usable GL implementation and the EFL apps automatically gained from it by becoming hardware accelerated. My homebrew manager was much better! but I still needed to finish a few things and I didn’t have time so I put to rest again.

modrobert writes: "That was fast, as suspected. Sony has released PS3 Firmware Update v4.31 via PSN (SEN) which officially features nothing, just a minor update. I have updated the Ps3OsRels wiki as usual where the updates also can be downloaded. This time there was an incremental update (PS3PATCH.PUP). Also worth mentioning that so far PSN still allow PS3 consoles with v4.30 to connect. This 'optional' part is a bit puzzling, but I still doubt this update will do anything good for hacking related purposes. "
|
modrobert writes: "Things are moving fast now in the development community after the LV0 keys (aka bootldr keys) for PS3 were leaked. We now have two custom firmwares (CFW) released based on original firmware (OFW) 4.30; Rogero CEX4.30 and E3 CFW4.30. There are probably more CFW releases out there, or being released while typing this, but these two are the most popular at the moment. For those wondering, if you currently have original firmware 3.60 or higher installed (4.xx) this will not work without downgrade to CFW 3.55 first, the procedure involves hardware based flashing (open, solder, dump) and only some PS3 consoles are supported. If you are already on CFW 4.21 then the downgrade to CFW 3.55 can be done relatively easy before upgrading to CFW 4.30. There are other ways as well, but not recommended. I bet Sony will speed up their release cycle of original firmwares now, if nothing else just to keep CFW users off PSN (SEN). Sure, with the LV0 keys new CFW versions can be developed, but it still creates a lot of hassle and a shitload of new homebrew releases will be required each time. So, I think we can safely assume to see a lot of 'improved system stability' releases by Sony in the near future. ;) "
