1) No, it is compatible. All dongles (except True Blue which requires CFW) works the same way as the first PS Jailbreak dongle, just different ways/tools to flash the dongle firmware. In other words mulitMan works with all dongles.
2) Possible, but not easy, and it requires old "fat" PS3 if you want to downgrade using dongle. Also worth mentioning the procedure will leave your PS3 in factory state, all data lost.
3) If you upgrade official firmware from v3.3x to 3.41 required for dongle there is no need to save data, but perhaps safer anyway. I don't know how CFW works in that regard, never tried it, but I'm sure someone reading this post can answer that.
4) The patches are usually included with the game releases you find online, when needed, not all games need any patch, only newer games which originally was protected to only allow 3.50 or higher firmware. Sometimes patches are released separate, still found in the same places where you would download games.
5) You can backup the games from disc with managers like Rogero or multiMAN. Any external USB drive should be FAT32 if you intend to play games.

Thanks for all that excellent info.
I knew about ecliPS3 but thought it was kind of outdated now.
I like the idea of keeping OFW and ecliPS3 dongle which works within RAM.
1) ecliPS3 has its own Manager Tools or if not then its compatible with old multiMAN?
2) If I did use Rogero CFW v3 for a while then possibly decided to go with ecliPS3 setup (OFW 3.41) will it be easy to downgrade & install OFW 3.41?
3) I forgot I must save all my game save files & trophies onto USB before I do anything right? Is that pretty straight forward and nothing to report?
4) Is there a database website out there which just lists (doesnt necessarily host the actual patch files) what game patches are out and for what firmware eg. 3.41 or 3.55?
5) Say I want to dump some of my original games onto external HDD, I will need to know how to patch the dumped games? I must use the Manager Tools to patch games? Also what format should the external HDD be? FAT32 or ???
Thanks for hints/help.

1) No, that means you will have to start by downgrading to v3.41 afaik, just upgrade directly with CFW v3.55 if that's what you want.
2) Yes, any CFW you desire.
3) I haven't tested that personally, but I don't see why it should fail.
4) You can run emulators when installed as homebrew, but not the Cobra dongle specific version of those emulators. The Cobra version of multiMAN works without Cobra dongle, just without Cobra specific features. You can also use (download) the older 02.09.02 version of multiMAN, the last "non-Cobra" version.
5) You can use any backup manager, but for game compatibility I think Rogero Manager and multiMAN are the best, they have a lot of different patch functions that might come in handy.
Personally I use ecliPS3 dongle with original firmware v3.41.
Granted it is not the most compatible method because sometimes game patches and such are only released for CFW v3.55. I just like using original firmware v3.41, and in a rather elegant way hack the PS3 using the dongle at boot which only patches RAM, technically it also differs from CFW v3.55 (eg. kmeaw) regarding code execution, while MFW (like Rogero and rebug) are more similar to dongle.
I know you want recommendations, but that's like going into a grocery store with shelves full of different brands of the same product, just choose what appeals to you. After you made your choice and realize it doesn't quite work as you want, pick another one.

Who is the expert ps3 enthusiast who can help me with questions? Please identify yourself lol.
I still havent modded or updated my OFW 3.3X
For some reason I feel the lastest Rogero CFW V3 is the one I should go with. Please correct me if I am wrong and you recommend other.
1) I am recommended to install OFW 3.55 before I do anything?
2) Then install a CFW like Rogero V3 (load it through update folder on USB)
3) Does Rogero fully support the latest multiMAN Cobra that just come out?
4) If I have Rogero CFW v3 installed, do I even need multiMAN Cobra to run ISO and EMUS/ROMs off HDD/USB becaue Rogero CFW has that function already?
5) Or most people recommend to run everything with multiMAN because it is the most advanced loader?
Thanks for your help.

So its fully functional without Cobra Dongle?
Or with the Cobra Dongle you get more functions and less bugs when running it?
Or the extra functions are merely things like a splashpage that promotes Cobra Dongle?

Hehe... First it was open source made by someone else, then it became semi open source multiman (source code released sporadically), and lately it moved to closed source when Cobra came along, but at least it works without Cobra dongle now (wasn't always like that though).

Does multiMAN mean that the author bundled the tools with a partner & the tools only work with a Cobra Dongle?
