Download here:

PS3OS v3.41 (from US site)
PS3OS v3.41 (from EU site)
PS3OS v3.41 (from Japanese site)

Also the new mysterious patch version here:

PS3OS patch v3.41 (from US site)
PS3OS patch v3.41 (from EU site)
PS3OS patch v3.41 (from Japanese site)

Judging by the size the new PS3PATCH.PUP file is an incremental update. The EU version is still same (bit for bit) as the US and Japanese version, this goes for both PS3UPDAT.PUP and PS3PATCH.PUP.

Done

After unpacking PS3PATCH.PUP I got these files:

Code:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 10240 Jul 28 10:48 5section.bin
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 3 Jul 28 10:48 6section.bin
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 6832 Jul 28 10:48 7section.bin
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 33034240 Jul 28 10:48 8section.bin
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 264283 Jul 28 10:48 dots.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 5 Jul 28 10:48 updater.sce
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 5661736 Jul 28 10:48 update.tar
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 5 Jul 28 10:48 version.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 11 Jul 28 10:48 vsh.tar

The included update.tar gives "This does not look like a tar archive" when trying to view contents.

From Eric Lempel @ blog.us.playstation.com

Quote:
Hi everyone, the next PlayStation 3 (PS3) system software update is coming soon. Firmware update 3.41 will add recommendations for games and videos on PlayStation Store. When you’re browsing through the details of a particular title, you’ll see a new “You May Like” section on the right-hand side. This section lists additional items based on the purchases of other PlayStation Network members who have purchased the item you’re currently looking at.

You can then click on this section to zoom in on the list and scroll the recommended titles.

This feature is a great way to discover new games that you may not know about, and it’s another step toward making the shopping experience easier and better for you all — similar to the five-star ratings feature we added in the last firmware update. Please note that while the 3.41 update will be released shortly, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.

In addition to this PS3 update, the next PSP (PlayStation Portable) firmware update (v.6.31) will be coming as well. This is a minor update, and system software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved.

As always, we look forward to your feedback.

Sony has secretly replaced the full v3.41 firmware on their update servers on 2010-08-02 (yyyy-mm-dd). The file size is still same but after checking with md5sum the checksum (hash) is different.

Old: 00c835be718fc3d5f793e130a2b74217 *PS3UPDAT.PUP
New: e07d2b84c9e9691c261b73e5f1aada20 *PS3UPDAT.PUP

I think the first release was silently replaced due to the update problems reported by many PS3 owners, but since it might also be related to other bugs which could lead to interesting exploits the first infamous release can still be found here.

The incremental v3.41 update remains the same (for now), bit for bit.

Within PS3UPDAT.PUP there are these files:

Code:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 169256960 Aug 4 08:28 6section.bin
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 3 Aug 4 08:28 5section.bin
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 264283 Aug 4 08:28 dots.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 5 Aug 4 08:28 updater.sce
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 10240 Aug 4 08:28 update.tar
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 5 Aug 4 08:28 version.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 5661736 Aug 4 08:28 vsh.tar

Only one of those files has changed, and it is '6section.bin'.

Code:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 500 500 169256960 Aug 4 08:28 6section.bin

File size remains the same, but different checksum (hash). Interestingly enough, this file is actually a tar file which includes other files as follows:

The dev_flash_xxx files and UPL.xml.pkg are the ones that have changed.

BTW:

Interesting group name they use there within the tar; 'psnes'.

How can I extract the dev_flash_000.tar.aa.2010_07_29_170013 files? I want to extact the PS3 Trophy Sound from the original source. Any ideas?

In an Unix (or Linux) environment you use 'tar' to extract. If you are using Windows then you can rename 6section.bin to 6section.tar and open using WinRAR or 7-zip.

PS3OS v3.42 (aka PS3 firmware) has been released, as expected it disables the PSJailbreak exploit (this also includes PSGroove, PSFreedom, etc. which uses the same exploit). I will not bother to link the files this time, you can find them in the wiki.

According to GaryOpa over at psx-scene.com the good old proxy trick work so you can still go online with fw v3.41 and use PSN.

To run the proxy on a PC you can download Logan5's PS3 Proxy Tool.

There are open proxies out there (IP address) which can used also, but keep in mind your data will pass through their system then.

PS3OS v3.50 (aka PS3 firmware) has been released, as expected it continues to block the PSJailbreak exploit (this also includes PSGroove, PSFreedom, etc. which uses the same exploit). You can find the new release in the wiki.

From Eric Lempel // VP, Network Operations Americas @ Sony

Quote:
Hi everyone, as we announced previously, the PS3 system software update (v3.50) is adding support for Blu-ray 3D Disc Playback, and it will be released shortly.

Additional new features in the 3.50 update include:

* Facebook Integration: Developers will be able to create PS3 games that have more interaction with Facebook. Once compatible PS3 titles are available, PS3 users can choose to access public information on Facebook – including user name, profile, uploaded photos and friends list – to enhance their gameplay experience.
* Grief Reporting Function: Users can send claim reports directly from the XMB for any inappropriate messages they receive from other PlayStation Network users. This feature is accessible from the option menu of the messages list in the FRIENDS category.

For more details and instructions on how to update the system software for the PS3 system, please visit http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Features/SystemUpdate.

As always, we look forward to your feedback.

PS3OS v3.61 (aka PS3 firmware) has been released, as expected it still kills 3.55 homebrew. You can find the new release in the wiki.

From Eric Lempel @ Sony.

Quote:
We have been working on a new PS3 system software update that requires all PSN users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. The update (v3.61) is mandatory and is available now.

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

PS3OS v3.70 (aka PS3 firmware) has been released, as expected it still kills 3.55 homebrew. You can find the new release in the wiki.

From Eric Lempel @ Sony.

Quote:
Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).

To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.

A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.

A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.

Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.

You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB

Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:

3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.

The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

as you all know this morning was 370 for the new PS3 firmware, I just wanted to tell you that the new firmware uses a new key to decrypt the files that comprise it (as for games that require 3.70 in the future).

Not only that, in this new firmware have put measures that would leave unused the method of load ps2 games using the cobra (from demonhades we, therefore, saying it is better to build on that in future versions 3.41 more restrictive ).

Yes, the old links are broken, simple because Sony decided to delete old updates, they are still there for reference (if for no other reason, just to point out Sony removed the files). I have them all though, any particular version you want?

This is probably not the right place, but I noticed that the last added info on Ps3OsRels refer to 4.78 OFW as being released in 20 jan 2015, which is obviously wrong. It is just a small mistake but I just wanted to say the word!

RECOMMENDATION FROM PS3XPLOIT TEAM:
FOR THE MOMENT, DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.83 UNLESS YOU HAVE DECIDED TO GIVE UP USING HAN PERMANENTLY ON THE CONSOLE.

After a look at the update files & preliminary tests, I am afraid I am bearing some bad news for HAN users playing online.

1. It would appear that [email protected] patched one of the 2 webkit exploits we currently use to trigger ROP chains.
It means that we need to replace this exploit in order to get any ps3xploit tool working on 4.83. Work is already under way, obviously no ETA at this stage. Please don't ask.

2. The kernel is completely untouched. No changes to either lv1 or lv2 which means CFWs will be easier to make. That's also good news for devs with any promising kernel vulnerability under investigation.

3. Changes were made to vsh as usual & they seem extensive enough to suspect that they may have patched the HAN vulnerability as well. We have not yet had time to look into the matter at all but if they did, HAN might be gone for good past 4.82, leaving only CFW2OFW conversions installable & runnable on 4.83 whenever the patched webkit exploit gets replaced.

In conclusion, the changes brought by the 4.83 update mean that anyone updating will lose usage of HAN, and possibly permanently until a kernel exploit comes out. Cfw2ofw conversions will be the only installed games that will still be working after updating.

The nature of this update is upsetting our 4.0 release plans somewhat. It's still very early stages in our investigations & there are still many unanswered questions for the moment. I will keep you all posted whenever I have additional information to share.

so amazed they spent time to shut this hole.

i'd say that without the piracy from playstation 1 sony would never ever reach this audience. i actually think sony was responsible in one way or another to "leak" / "contribute" to the route of modchips and swap discs.

with an unit that mostly requires sony online subscription to work with online games they keept kontrol of it.

also pushing playstations with blue ray was genious as the cost of a blue ray player was close to paying for a playstation, the kids could play games and the parent would watch blu ray anal porn when the kids was sleeping.
