xk3y firmware v1.04 released
Posted on October 14th 2011

- isoMenu system
- Fixed Hitachi 78/79 & XGD3
- Fixed Samsung & XGD3 (thanks to morph0 and others)
- Increased AP25 failure grace period
- Implemented MenuIso menu system
- Changed behavior when an ISO is selected and tray is closed. ISO is now queued until tray opens
- Added Mount point count to main menu
- Added xkey.cfg file

Download here.

I tried xk3y firmware v1.04 and the isoMenu system fails using the instructions found in readme_isoMenu.txt. The xkey.cfg gets copied from USB to microSD card during the update procedure, so that part works, but the "Current Disc" under "Video Library" is just greyed out in the dash.

Let me know if you manage to make it work.

Ok, the xkey.cfg included was incorrect, edit like this.

Code:
##############################
# XKEY CFG
##############################
MENUISO=Y
##############################

Quote:
About IsoMenu
----------------------
IsoMenu implements a MixedMedia style menu system. XKey generates a virtual ISO in memory that represents the USB Mass Storage devices attached to your XKey.

To Use
-Enable IsoMenu (see xkey.cfg below)
-Start your system as normal
-Once the Dash is on screen and HDD(s) have been recognised, eject the empty DVD drive. XKey will autoload the IsoMenu
-You may then use the XBox in Dash browser to navigate to the desired ISO. This is currently found under 'Video Library', 'Current Disc'.
-Once desired ISO is selected you will see 'ISO Selected, open tray to proceed'
-Eject the IsoMenu. XKey will autoload the desired ISO

Returning to the IsoMenu
-Eject the current game ISO. XKey will autoload the IsoMenu

Note:
You may select more than one game using the IsoMenu but it is the last game selected that will be autoloaded. XKey detects the user selections by observing which sectors are read from the IsoMenu by the XBox.The Xbox is caching data read from XKey the first time a directory is selected. The data is not reread if a directory is subsequently reselected.

This means that once a game has been selected it cannot be reselected. You can see this with a simple test:

Select Game A
Select Game B
Eject IsoMenu => Game B loads

Select Game A
Select Game B
Select Game A
Eject IsoMenu => Game B loads

Warning:
Unplugging USB Mass Storage devices while the IsoMenu is running or loading the IsoMenu while plugging Mass Storage devices may give unpredictable results

xkey.cfg
------------
The xkey.cfg file is used to configure current and future XK feature, it is copied from a USB Mass Storage device to internal SD in much the same way as updates are copied. An update and change in xkey.cfg can be combined by placing all three files in the root of a USB Mass Storage device.

The IsoMenu is controlled from xkey.cfg. To enable the IsoMenu create an xkey.cfg file in the root of your USB Mass Storage device, inside the xkey.cfg file add the line

MENUISO=Y

To enable the IsoMenu OR

MENUISO=N

To disable the IsoMenu.

Then plug the USB Mass Storage device into xkey and update XK as usual.

Firmware 1.05 in beta testing.
Posted on October 15th 2011

Just a quick sneak peek what we have in store this time.

Thumbnails are now added to the IsoMenu feature.

To Use:
Add a JPG to the directory where the game ISO resides, give it the same name as the ISO but with a jpg file extension. That JPG is shown in the XBox's Picture Library browser when the game is selected. A small white square is shown if there is no JPG

More info on 1.05 soon to come!

And yes, more stock is on the way...

xk3y firmware UPDATE v1.11
------------------------------------

-------------
Instructions:
-------------

1. Extract the three files "rootfs", "uImage" & "xkey.cfg"

2. Open xkey.cfg with Notepad and configure it if needed.
2.1 Add the three files to the root folder of a Flash Drive or HDD. (Make sure to "eject" the drive properly from the PC, it may otherwise cause corrupt files)

3. Connect the Flash drive or HDD to your xk3y remote and wait for the xk3y to start the update.
3.1 The remote OLED will now display "UPDATING - PLEASE WAIT" for about 35 seconds. (Do not turn off your XB360 or disconnect the remote while updating)

4. Once the update is completed, the OLED will display "UPDATE COMPLETE - RESET XBOX" Reboot your xbox and the xk3y should now be updated to the latest firmware.

5. That's it! Continue to enjoy using xk3y with the new features!

NOTE! If you use the same drive as you store games on to do the update with, then its recommended (not needed) to remove the "rootfs", "uImage" & "xkey.cfg" from the root of your drive after a firmware update. Since keeping them there will cause the xk3y to check the files if they are a newer firmware version then stored on your xk3y micro SD card, and because of that take longer time for your HDD to be recognized.

First look...

The "remote display stays on" even when the console is turned off problem is still there for me, not fixed.

I removed dae.bin from the hard drive /games directory, that worked fine with the XGD3 titles I tried.

Haven't tested any of the wireless stuff yet.

My understanding is that if you log onto Xbox live it will do the silent update to your dash. Even with this latest xK3y firmware you will loose the ability to play non XGD3 titles! Is that correct?

Same here and NFS: Hot Pursuit, PAL version in my case, still doesn't work.

The problem with XGD3 titles not loading is fixed now with xk3y game profiling support in firmware v1.11, just updated the console dash via Live myself to 2.0.14699.0, works fine (even if it looks like shit).

I talked to the xkey team; the display will be fixed in a separate update which target the remote alone.

Regarding XGD3 profiling: Funny that you mention it, as far as I know "NFS: Hot Pursuit" is the only title not added, the rest works. It will be possible to add game profiles yourself later, for now they just include it in the firmware update.

This is a firmware update for the display unit (remote) only, not for xk3y, mainly to fix the 'display always on' problem with latest xk3y v1.1.

Just use the USB cable that came with your xk3y v1.1 (aka R7.2), if you have the old xk3y version with Micro-USB connector (instead of FFC/ZIF flat cable) on the main board PCB (inside Xbox 360) then you don't need this, it already contains circuitry to turn the display/remote off when you power off the Xbox 360 console.

Here are the instructions included in the update release in case you missed them.

Quote:
Firmware Updater for xk3y Remote

Contents:
xupper.exe - An old DriveKey tool, we are reusing the bootloader in the remote & this tool can update it.
remote_1_1A.upd - The FW update file

To use:
1. Unpack the zip file

2. Plug your remote into PC, holding down the up & down buttons while plugging in. The display will stay blank and the blue LED will light

3. Run xupper.exe, it should detect the remote and display "Connected: Firmware update mode" and "Updater v 1.3"

4. In the top menu bar select "File | Open", select "Programmer Updates (.upd)" in the file filter and load file "remote_1_1A.upd"

5. In the top menu bar select "Programmer | Update Programmer Firmware" & the update will run, takes about 10 seconds & the display turns on

6. You're done! Disconnect the remote and use as normal.

Looks like I forgot to post release info for xk3y firmware v1.12, it was released on 2011-12-24, so here goes (better late than never).

Quote:
------------------------------------
xk3y firmware UPDATE v1.12

Wish they release something to install the XBLA games

Still so far the most stable all rounder 360 mod and works with everything.

Yes, that would be great. Also loading cross region, but I don't think it will happen.

After testing the xk3y firmware v1.23 release there seems to be serious problems with it. ISO files fails to load from USB hard drive when selecting via wifi web interface, and it took a lot of cold boots to get rid of the E64 error before I could downgrade back to firmware v1.21 Beta.

I've tested v1.23 twice now, when selecting the ISO (game) nothing happened when I tried open/close the DVD tray, and after the next Xbox 360 reset xkey failed to load with E64 error, the remote/display unit shows nothing, just dead. Only way out of it for me was to power off the console completely (pulling the cable), and do this over and over until it finally booted so I could downgrade.

I suggest waiting until the next update is released. If anyone tried v1.23, let me know the results.

Well I only load off via HDD and use the k3y to load iso's manually...I go on LIVE alot so don't use any other features to play it safe.

I haven't had any issues....well I don't have a wifi dongle. Games are working normal...nothing changed for me at all. My 360 is the black phat one.

This is why I like, and support Wasabi. All you need is your drive key, and it works with ANY DVD drive, without any firmware updates, NAND file, or RGH board. Wasabi also offers auto key extraction for some drives. I know it's a this -vs- that, but I am not going to install this, AND another piece of hardware to get the end result desired when Wasabi only needs your KEY.BIN, and that's it.

So you had to continue the "Wasabi trolling" here as well. I already replied to your news post comment.

Wasabi has no support for Hitachi Slim drives (0500 & 0502) at all (not yet anyway), and the only supported drive for automatic extraction is Liteon 16D4S. The NAND files are only required on the new Hitachi Slim drives, those drives were previously unsupported on all ODD solutions including Wasabi, now they are supported via RGH dump with xkey which is an added feature.

The reason xkey requires a dump of the whole original ROM (dummy.bin) on previously supported drives is to emulate the DVD drive response properly, only using the drive key is not safe.

The procedure for consoles with these new drives involves obtaining the CPU key and DVD key by booting Xell, then dumping the NAND flash. The actual data required by xkey from the NAND flash dump is the Firmware Challenge Response Table (FCRT). The procedure is documented in the firmware release.

s4u,

I use EXT3 file system on the hard drive and have RESUMELAST=Y
in xkey.cfg, not sure why, but suspect that could be causing it since v1.23 clearly works for some.

As it turns out the firmware release was actually v1.23 Beta3, I have uploaded v1.23 final now and will test that one instead.

I have tested v1.23 final now, works fine so far, tested both via wifi and
remote/display, can't reproduce the bug anymore.

Also, the web interface in v1.23 final looks different in several ways
compared to v1.23 Beta3, for example when you select game you get an
additional screen in "Folder Structure" view.

xk3y firmware UPDATE v1.25

-----------------------------------------
New features in 01.25 [30/08/12]
-----------------------------------------
- Added support for 16d5s fw 1175 (RGH)
- Added AoE support

AoE stands for ATA over Ethernet.

xk3y firmware v1.25 fails with fat Xbox 360 consoles, slim works ok.

Quote:
Looks like I have screwed up & borked Fat support

Like I said in the other thread, I borked 1.25 (facepalm). Fix is done & with TPs

For now use 1.23 and I will get 1.26 out in a day or so (assuming it is fixed). You're not missing much if you dont have a 16d5s
