- This is about how DNAS works on and is implemented in the PS2. For general info or other uses, see DNAS General Info.
DNAS is implemented in the PS2 through the use of DNASXXX.IMG archives. Click here for .IMG file wiki.
It's most noteable features are:
- It checks memory for unauthorized software. (cheats)
- It checks for unauthorized hardware. (modchips)
- It checks for non-original game discs (DVD-Rs)
The routine which checks the disc is contained within the CDVDMAN driver contained in the DNAS file.
The DNAS cdvdman driver will get the security sector ID of the game disc, which is a 5 byte hex value, and send it along with other data gathered to the DNAS server, which will compare it to the expected value. Patch programs are available which will cause cdvdman to report a static value, such as PS2 disc id inserter 2.20. Before patching, the disc id would have to be discovered by running DNAS H4x0r v3 on a ps2 with an original copy of the game.
