Factory Restore procedure for the PS3:

Back up all your settings and saves first before you do this because it will _ERASE_ everything.

1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back. Wait 30 seconds and Turn the Switch back on.

2. Hold the Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.

3. Then run a Full Format via System > Format. (This will take around 3 hours). If it finishes and you have no video, switch to your a/v cable and set it back up for HDMI.

4. Restore the backup you made if you made one.

NOTE: The PS3 does a laser calibration as part of the factory restore.
