Me and bobmcbob been trying to work out the proper command line to build a psp iso correctly using 'mkisofs' in linux so it can be booted with UMD emulator or Fastloader. The idea is to skip the need for the lame wincrap util vcdromx.

We mounted the new SSX game release iso and copied the files to a dir named work/ and tried to build the iso like this...

Code:
mkisofs -U -A "PSP GAME" -V NA -sysid "PSP GAME" -volset SSX_PSP -p SSX -P "bla" -o mypsp.iso work/

...and I think we are close now since the volume descriptor looks same as the working iso, but it still don't load. Please help out here.

Found some interesting stuff in the UMD standard pdf. Check the table at section 26.2.1 page 65 (page - 53 - within pdf).

bobmcbob,

After what we discussed on irc regarding a way to make sure files are sorted within the new iso as it was in the original release iso. I narrowed it down to this l337 command line:

Code:
isoinfo -f -i original.iso | nl -nln -s ";" | awk -F ";" '{print substr($2,2) " -" $1}' >sort_file

...then use mkisofs like this:

Code:
mkisofs -o new.iso -sort sort_file [all_the_other_options] umd_file_dir/

Check the Wiki here for reference on the sort_file syntax:

http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php/MkisofsSort

Sample sort_file from bomberman (cvn-bpb.iso) here:

Code:
UMD_DATA.BIN -1
PSP_GAME -2
PSP_GAME/SYSDIR -3
PSP_GAME/USRDIR -4
PSP_GAME/PIC0.PNG -5
PSP_GAME/PIC1.PNG -6
PSP_GAME/ICON0.PNG -7
PSP_GAME/PARAM.SFO -8
PSP_GAME/SYSDIR/EBOOT.BIN -9

ok just tried the sorted with all the options from before (-U etc) and nope it didnt work..
maybe i did something else wrong, maybe its just the -U option now that needs replacing

[edit]

Ok, well, hmm i dropped the -U option and put the iso level to 4 using the -iso-level option 4 and it nolonger crashes the psp, doesnt work still, but doesnt crash which is a good thing..

OK, heres the info so far, this works for the files I tested. If it doesnt for you, please post here with ur stats. I may have made a typo in typing it up.

Code:

@Author: Bobmcbob
@Thanks: Modrobert (www.eurasia.nu , Blasty)

@Title: Notes and Finding on generating UMD iso's on the Linux(Unix)
operating system.

OK, First i am not sure, but i highly suspect that file order is important.
So we need to take a dump of the iso we are messing with and extract the
order information.

The following does this:

isoinfo -f -i original.iso | nl -nln -s ";" | awk -F ";" '{print substr($2,2) " -" $1}' >sort_file

The following command will mount the iso without screwing with the filenames:

mount -o loop,map=o -t iso9660 temp.iso tmp/

Now it is possible to cp -R all the files from tmp to your new folder.
There you can play with all the ripping etc you need to do.

Then to generate the iso:

mkisofs -sort sort_file -iso-level 4 -xa -A "PSP GAME" -V NA -sysid "PSP GAME" -volset SSX_PSP -p SSX -P "bla" -o mypsp4.iso files/

If anyone wants to help progress this, post on the euraisa forums. Search me or
Modrobert out

Peace and OpenSource is the way forward

Any idea, how to compress the ISOs to .cso or dax ziso on Linux?
CISO at least should be easy to port (libz) but has anyone released sources of the tools for Windows?

Yes, it can be found in the DAX ZISO Loader v0.62 release.

I have attached the sources to DAX Creator 0.3 (by Dark_AleX) along with a static x86 binary for linux.

Thanks, great!

I also found the ciso compressor sources, in the Booster's Devhook sources release that I had somehow missed.
